What is Batik?
Traditionally it is a cloth made using a wax-resist dying technique. It is an ancient art with worldwide popularity.
Batik is created by applying hot wax to the cloth, dyeing it, and repeating the process to build color and detail. Thin lines are drawn with a tjanting or a brush, and after the final dye, the wax is removed to reveal the rich colors and natural crackle that define the technique.
An Art and a Craft
Each batik piece is created slowly and intentionally, it can take a week or more to create one piece, depending on the size and the weather (to dry each layer).
Behind our unique designs stands the significant talent of Andrés (Parrilla).
Our collaboration with Parrilla Workshop:
We each play our part in bringing this collection to life. Our role is to share ideas and themes we think will resonate. We get inspired by everyday life around us, from coastal details to local traditions. Andrés takes those ideas and turns them into finished designs. He hand‑dyes each piece on natural fabrics using the wax-resist technique. Once the artwork arrives, we frame and finish each piece in our workshop here in the Algarve and share it through local galleries, shops, cafés, and art fairs.
